AI Content and Search Intent: Decide the Page Before You Draft
A practical framework for classifying search intent, SERP overlap and desired user outcome before generating AI content.
Intent is a destination
Informational, commercial, transactional and navigational labels are useful, but they are only a start. Two informational queries may still need different pages if users want different outcomes.
Inspect what ranks
Look at page types, dominant angles, depth and recurring entities. If two keyword variants return substantially the same useful pages, one strong page can often cover both.
Separate monetization behavior
A pricing query, review query and tutorial query may mention the same product but lead to different decisions. Separate pages are justified when the user objective differs.
Use AI after the cluster decision
Once the destination is defined, AI can help group supporting questions, draft headings and identify internal links. Do not ask it to manufacture a URL for every keyword.
Revisit with GSC
Unexpected query impressions can reveal a missing section or a genuinely separate intent. Update an existing page when the intent remains the same.
