How to Use AI for SEO Without Automating the Wrong Things
AI can accelerate research, briefs, drafts, internal-link discovery and refresh work. Keep human control over intent, evidence, prioritization and high-stakes claims.
Start with query intent
Ask what outcome the searcher wants and what page type currently satisfies that outcome. AI can summarize SERPs, but the decision to create or consolidate a page should consider actual overlap.
Use AI for research assistance
Generate entity lists, questions and source checklists, then verify important facts against reliable sources. Treat AI output as a map to investigate, not the evidence itself.
Turn research into a brief
A strong brief states the audience, primary question, decision criteria, required sources, page angle, internal links and what the article should not cover.
Draft with constraints
Give the model the brief, source material and desired structure. Ask it to distinguish verified facts from inference and avoid invented experience.
Edit for usefulness
Remove repetitions, generic transitions and paragraphs that do not move the reader toward an answer. Check whether the page answers the query early.
Close the loop with search data
After publishing, use Search Console to find unexpected queries, positions 5–30 and opportunities to improve the same page before creating another.
